At Brainstain, we like our fair share of nostalgia and so the news of a third instalment of Gremlins sounds like music to our ears. Yes, Gremlins 3 is in the early writing and pre-production stage, which was confirmed by Zack Galligan who played “Billy Peltzer” in the two-part franchise movie to date. Zack said that Warner Brothers and director Chris Columbus are vigorously working on a forthcoming motion picture to make it into a trilogy. Buy Gremlins here.
This is good news as with the advancements in visual effects since the last film, Gremlins 2: The New Batch in 1990, should make for some new and appealing scenes. However, we hope that they consider sticking with the puppets, which brought the Gremlins and Mogwais’ to life in this 1984 classic. It is good to see the leading actor and original writer already attached to the project and Chris Columbus is also set to direct it. So, you know that it will retain its authenticity, which is more than we can say for most sequels these days. Also, Steven Spielberg will most likely be aboard as an Executive Producer, giving it his seal of approval. This is all coming together with the right killer ingredients for a worthy third film to this comedy horror classic and we will now bask in this nostalgic film clip, here below.
They don’t really do “movie magic” like this anymore, so we hope that they don’t screw it up, but with the correct people involved surely this can’t be possible? So, just remember don’t expose it to light and don’t ever get it wet or it will do nothing but multiply. And, never ever, feed it after midnight! Otherwise, it will turn into a little monster or your worst nightmare or whatever you like to call it, a ‘Gremlin’. So, for now stick with watching Gizmo’s best moments from ‘Gremlins 2’, right here.
Such a masterpiece could only have ever been created during in the 1980’s, how else would anyone expect for this to be believed, if it didn’t actually originate from the 80’s? We had films like E.T., Labyrinth and Gremlins (buy Mogwai), so we had lots of puppets and we wonder if the newer generation can even begin understand the appeal? But, we can, so screw ’em! Zack Galligan said this about the project,
“Warner Bros definitely wants it, Chris Columbus wants to do it because he’d like to undo the ‘Gremlins’ thing as he wasn’t thrilled with it and Spielberg wants to do it, I imagine – because he’s Spielberg – and why wouldn’t he want to do it. Once he’s found the right script he can attach his name and make a ton of money. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.”
Galligan went on to say that he knows that Chris Columbus regretted not working on Gremlins 2 but he has now wrestled control back over the film franchise.
“I think you can tell what’s happening with Gremlins 3 the same way you could tell with Gremlins 2. It’s the same people and they tend to work the same way. There is a huge time gap but it’s Warner Bros, Spielberg and Chris Columbus. Now, Chris Columbus didn’t have anything to do with Gremlins 2 – because by his own admission he didn’t see a franchise.”
So, when can we expect to see Gremlins 3? Probably not until 2018, at the very earliest, but still we don’t mind waiting for a quality film that will do the other two films justice. Unlike, let’s say, a female version of GhostBusters?
Anyways, hopefully they could even find a role for Corey Feldman, which would really be the icing on the cake, don’t you think?
