According to the Daily Mail, who had the recent exclusive access with Zahara’s birth mother, Mentewab Dawit Lebiso, 31, who gave ‘Zahara’ up for adoption after she was raped at 19 -years-old in Ethiopia, after that she fell ill, post-birth and she had to give up her baby and has since spoken with D.M. journalist, Paul Thompson.
Angelina Jolie, who is currently going through her divorce with Brad Pitt, must surely have seen this recent news story emanating from the region where she had adopted Zahara from, far away from the country’s capital of Addis Ababa. Reportedly, Mentewab has said that she would like to see Angelina gain full custody of Zahara after her divorce, but she has stated that she would like her daughter to know that she is alive and that she still thinks about her all the time. Upon adoption, Angelina was reportedly told that Zahara was an orphan of an Aids stricken mother who had passed away. This is now proven to be false, since 2007, but this is the first and much bigger interview, plus appeal for any contact to be made by Mentewab towards Zahara.
Mentewab Dawit has said that she never received any photos, letters or any financial support from Angelina Jolie, but all that she wants is to be able to have some regular contact with the daughter that she had to give up, under very difficult circumstances.
Mentewab said to the D.M., “Please, just let me talk to my daughter”. Before adding, “I just want her to know that I am alive and long to be able to speak with her”.
Mentewab who lives in a small town far from the centre of Addis Ababa, said, “I do not want my daughter back, but just to be in contact with her and be able to call her up and talk with her”
Mentewab, who is most definitely her birth mother, continued, “Angelina has been more of a mother to her than I have ever been. She has been with her since she was a baby, but that does not mean I do not miss her. I miss her all the time. I think about her every day and long to hear her voice or see her face. I know when she has a birthday, but I am sad because I can’t celebrate it with her. I would so much want to celebrate with her on her birthday and other special days.
Mentewab Dawit Lebiso said, “I long to be able to have regular contact with her.”
This is truly a heartbreaking story and it hits you at the core of every human nerve that one can possess.
Angelina Jolie has done much in adopting children and being a special envoy for ‘The United Nations’, but how will she react to the pleas of the birth mother of her adopted daughter, Zahara?
Mentewab told her interpreter in Amharic to the D.M., “I would like Zahara to know she has a mother who loves her as much as Angelina. I know her life is with Angelina is in another country and she speaks another language than me. We all die sometime and before I die I would like her to know about me and that she has family here in Ethiopia. I would ask Angelina to let me speak with her. I do not think it is too much to ask.”
If you have a heart, as do we, this story is especially moving and one can only hope that Angelina will hear the pleas for some contact between Mentewab and Zahara.
Mentewab added, “She has a life that I could never give her, but I would still like to have some contact. I would like to see her face. She has grown into a beautiful woman and I am so proud of her. My heart bursts because I am so proud.”
The 31-year-old has had no contact with Angelina, since Zahara was adopted in 2005, and Mentewab lives in a one-room shack, with no toilet or running water. Mentewab said, “No money has ever been offered and that does not worry or disappoint me”
Angelina Jolie is reportedly worth around $200-$250million if and when she divorces Brad Pitt, yet Mentewab survives on 15 ETB a month, that’s $0.66 US cents.
Mentewab gestured to the journalist from the Daily Mail and said, “’What would I do with the money? I do not want any money from Angelina. She does not have to send me any money, but all I would like is to talk with Zahara.”
When asked about her thoughts on the split of Angelina and Brad Pitt, she said.
“I am sorry that they are splitting up and I will pray for them, but I do not think it will affect Zahara that much. I do not know who is in the right and who is in the wrong. It is very sad when a marriage breaks up, but I known they will be thinking about their children. I am not worried about Zahara in this, as she will be looked after by them both. I know they love the children and they will not want any hurt to come to them. I do not know who is in the right and who is in the wrong. It is very sad when a marriage breaks up, but I known they will be thinking about their children”.
“I have read about what Brad Pitt is supposed to be like but I do not recognize this person. This is a man who has looked after and cared for my daughter. He is a good man and I hope that they can settle whatever it is between them and move on with their lives.”
Angelina Jolie had tried to involve Child Protection agencies in Los Angeles, amidst the reported incident Brad Pitt had on a plane with Maddox, a verbal argument of some sort, this was later thrown out by investigators, as it was shown to have no merit for further investigation. Since then, Angelina has flexed her mommy muscles and has hardly let Brad Pitt see the kids, plus also imposed on him, a ridiculous four times a month drug testing procedure, plus only granting him sporadic supervised visits to see his children. This of course, sounds to us like it is completely “Bat-Sh*t” crazy, but, what do we know?
Mentewab states that she knows that Brad is a good father and we believe that, too.
So, what remains to be seen is if Angelina Jolie will grant the birth mother of Zahara, any contact with her child, at all?
Seeing the photos of Mentewab and how she lives, you would be forgiven for thinking that Angelina, with the kindness in her heart, would and hopefully will help the birth mother in at least; speaking with her daughter. The daughter that she had to give up or at least even help her with a kind gesture of some financial support. This is the real test of humanity here, apart from appearing as a “Saint” like figure for ‘The United Nations’.
Otherwise, surely Brad Pitt would gladly help her out, we would think? This is truly an important story coming to light amidst recent Hollywood adoptions in the 2000’s and it’s a sort of test in the eyes of public opinion, as to how Angelina Jolie or even Brad Pitt, will react to this story.
With that amount of money, it breaks your heart to see someone’s earnest pleas to just have limited contact with a baby that Mentewab had to give up, twelve years ago.
We hope to hear further updates on this story and are truly wishing to see the real kindness of Angelina Jolie and or Brad Pitt, even, within respect to Zahara’s birth mother. Let’s hope and pray that this happens, as this leaves us with a heavy heart, indeed.
