Here at Brainstain, we like to play and to play with power can be a lot of fun, just imagine the Ring, the precious Ring of Power, but you know, “power can blind to those that seek it”. Yes, you guessed it, there’s a new Lord of The Rings game coming out this year and the game reveal is set for March 8th, 2017. Therefore, pure feelings of nostalgia and a sudden urge to carve up Orcs with your trusty blade, comes at you in big waves of blood thirst. ‘Middle Earth: Shadow of War’ is the follow-up to the 2014 game, ‘Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor’ and if there ever was a game to get totally lean with and then play it with your girlfriend, then this is the game for you! Let’s have a look at the trailer, shall we? Check it out!
This latest new venture into the world of The Lord of The Rings Trilogy and inside the CG mind of J.R.R. Tolkien, comes the game which is set in between, the events of ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of The Rings’ saga, for all the die-hard LOTR fans out there. This isn’t just a throw together or just a cash demanding spin-off, this is a continuation of the world of all Hobbit’s, Orcs, Elves, plus the evil of Sauron and of course, “the Ring”, the precious ring! “He who has it, has the power!”
The game is produced by Monolith Productions and the same characters from ‘Shadow of Mordor’ return with Talion and Celebrimbor, whose goal in the game is to gather all the dark forces up and turn them against their evil leader, Sauron. All in day’s work for these heroes and Nemesis System also returns for this game, which will help keep the forces of evil, new and fresh each time that you play a new game, find out more here.
So, you’ll never get bored facing the same old enemies, since there’s a system in place for that sort of thing. So, what’s the official synopsis of the game, well, we got you and here it is:
“In Middle-earth: Shadow of War, players wield a new Ring of Power and confront the deadliest of enemies, including Sauron and his Nazgul, in a monumental battle for Middle-earth. The open-world action-adventure game is brought to life through the expansion of the award-winning Nemesis System. The robust personalization from the first game is now applied to the entire world where the environments and characters are all shaped by player actions and decisions, creating a personal world unique to every gameplay experience.”
So, your own experience will be different from your neighbors, when playing the game, as none of the games will ever be entirely the same. Michael de Plater the VP at Monolith explained further,
“Following the amazing reception to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, we massively expanded every dimension of the game, including the world, the story, the RPG systems, the core gameplay, and of course the personal player stories of the Nemesis System. As lifelong fans of Middle-earth, we are so grateful to have the privilege to bring to life the most incredible fantasy world ever created in a new way, for a new generation. With Middle-earth: Shadow of War, we can’t wait to see the amazing stories players are going to create and share.”
This to add to the notion of something called “Followers” which is something new within the Nemesis System, that you can accrue over time, meaning new characters and new plotlines of rivalries between them grow and lots of varying personalities of aggressive enemies are available to fight against at any time. Yes, it does seem like the games have come a long way, since just running around like Frodo and Samwise Gamgee, killing things in your path, which was usually a lot of repeats of Orc upon Orc, till the bitter end. Those games were still fun and they were very well done, but Monolith are promising a “richer, more personal, and expansion world” with ‘Shadow of War’ than with it predecessors.
So, when will the game be released? The game is slated for release on the 22nd of August 2017 in the USA and on the 25th in Europe, so that gives everyone something to look forward to by the end of this coming summer.
To get you all hyped up for the game, we leave you with a famous quote in order to prepare you for the hell, that is Middle Earth.
“The time of the Elves… is over. Do we leave Middle-Earth to its fate? Do we let them stand alone?” – Lady of the Wood
You have to fight, god dammit! Brainstain, over and out!
