Every once in a while, a film re-make will be on the cards, that many people have really high expectations for, only for them to be dashed into the ground with the film being a total disappointment. But, with Stephen King’s IT being re-made for release in September of 2017, it is still way too early to tell, but a crowd got to see the 90 second teaser trailer on the weekend at SXSW; and it reportedly garnered some screams from the watching audience, so perhaps it’s set to be a good one?
In the teaser trailer screening, no recording devices were allowed, but blogger Trace Thurman from the horror blog ‘Bloody Disgusting’, was able to detail the clip of the film and communicate it partly to the readers, as no official trailer has yet been released to the public apart from this earlier teaser, from last year. S.S. Georgie!
They didn’t give away too much with that one, did they? Truly a strange teaser and we are yet to get a hold of the trailer that was seen this weekend at SXSW.
Trace Thurman wrote that the suspense was rife before the trailer was shown and the trailer ended up producing screams once the famous clown ‘Pennywise” lunged out of the water to chase one of the members of the Losers Club. Much like the ABC mini series of 1990, based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel, featuring Pennywise the clown played by Tim Curry, this time Pennywise is back and is being played by Bill Skarsgaard.
Both films seemingly commence with the paper hat boat floating down a rain stream towards a storm drain, where as you know, there’s Pennywise, who presumably eats Georgie for an early supper. Let’s see the original scene, because it’s probably one of our favorite moments in the original IT film.
And, sadly we bet that this is actually John Podesta’s favorite film of all time, don’t you? It’s quite plausible that with all the children in this film, this could be his favorite, right? Or maybe, just his favorite book of all time, who knows? But, we continue to speculate with the rumoured facts. Maybe, John Podesta should have played ‘Pennywise’ the clown, but we think that would have been inappropriate at this point, but truly, also very scary.
Don’t you also want a balloon from Pennywise the dancing clown, too? Well, you’ll have to wait until September 8th 2017, for that balloon, when the official film is released.
But, so what’s new and different in the re-make? Well, Pennywise is being played by Bill Skarsgaard and Pennywise is said or is meant to be much closer in age to the kids in the Losers Club, rather than in the 1990 ABC mini series, that along with a new look for the killer clown.
Much of the plot seems to go in the same direction as the original novel but with a modern twist, in this new IT film, as members of a club in school, called the Losers Club, eventually figure out that they’re all being stalked by a clown, the same clown, as they begin to confide in each other about their visions of ‘Pennywise’, just like in the novel.
The new feature film is directed by Andrés Muschietti and it features a very young cast, including ‘Stranger Things’ star Finn Wolfhard and the film is once again set in Derry, Maine, so you know it will rain a lot and it will be generally creepy all around, as it should be. Nice!
So, will this new spin on ‘IT’ scare a new and younger generation in cinemas? Most likely, but it will be difficult to convince the viewers of the original mini-series, with such a breakout performance from Tim Curry as ‘Pennywise’, to ever really replace it. Surely, that film cannot be beaten? Find out more about the 2017 IT, right here.
We will just have to wait to see if this re-make really floats or just sinks?
Brainstain, over and out!
