The stage was set in Houston, Texas, for the meeting of Manchester rivals United and City for the International Champions Cup, and the game did not disappoint, (unless you’re a Manchester City fan). Manchester United took home a comfortable win with a score of 2-0.
This was Manchester United’s third friendly after beating LA Galaxy, then Real Salt Lake City, and now their city rivals Manchester City, with a dominant win. Both Marcus Rashford and new signing Romelu Lukaku scored in the convincing victory in a two minute flurry of goals, which was only Pep Guardiola’s first run out of his Man City team in Pre-Season, but now Manchester United hold the bragging rights in Manchester and they’re sure to be a much stronger force this season, than last season.
Let’s take a look at the highlights of the Red Devils victory, shall we? Look out for those goals towards the end of the video, with Man United exerting their dominance over their City rivals.
Jose Mourinho will no doubt be proud of his team’s performance, even in a Pre-Season friendly of this magnitude, with Romelu Lukaku scoring now in consecutive games, looking truly lethal in front of goal ahead of the new season.
Romelu Lukaku scored the first goal in the 37th minute after rounding the goalkeeper and slotting the ball home from a tight angle. Then only two minutes later Marcus Rashford broke free on the right hand side from a neat through pass and slotted home, shooting hard into the bottom left-corner. That was that! Manchester United didn’t look threatened by their rivals and held onto the two goal lead until full time.
Manchester United will face Real Madrid next in the International Champions Cup on Sunday at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California and this is sure to be another very interesting match up, which will see Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho face up against their old clubs, respectively. So seemingly, California are in for quite a treat as this Pre-Season tournament continues in America.
On the other hand, Manchester City will face Real Madrid on Wednesday the 26th of July at The Los Angeles Coliseum, so be sure to earmark that match too, for next week.
Who will win the trophy of the International Champions Cup? Surely, the money has to be on Real Madrid or the Red Devils of Manchester, so all eyes are now on Sunday’s match.
Brainstain, over and out!
