Angelina Jolie has been incredibly busy single-handedly raising six children, calling off her divorce to Brad Pitt, whilst spending the last few years behind the camera focusing on her directing career. However, she will be taking a break from directing so that she can slip back into a popular role she once filled. In case you haven’t figured it out already, Angelina Jolie will soon be back on the silver screen to star in the sequel to Disney’s Maleficent. (Disney fans everywhere scream in delight.)
Angelina nailed the role as Maleficent down to a tee! Her haunting yet incredible acting was perhaps the reason for much of the success of the first movie. So, it seems only right that she’d return to reprise the role that she says she “was born to play”. We definitely agree.
Speaking at the Telluride Film Festival (via Deadline), the actress confirmed the news and gave us hope for a spectacular follow-up movie. She said: “We have been working on the script and this is going to be a really strong sequel.”
In real life, Angelina is far from being a villain, with her continuing work as a special envoy for the United Nations which already won her the Academy’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. She also won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Girl Interrupted, with her breakout role as the mentally ill, Lisa Rowe.
Could her directing a movie possibly also win her another Oscar one day? Only time will tell, as only one woman has ever been bestowed with the honour of Best Director.
With four directorial achievements under her belt, Angelina admits she now wishes to return to acting for a while. She laughs saying: “I am now the breadwinner for the family, so it’s time.”
There were rumors that she might be doing Universal’s Bride Of Frankenstein, but she said she is going back to Disney to do Maleficent 2.
We hope this new movie brings Angelina some good news after a “difficult year” separating from her husband Brad Pitt. She told The Sunday Telegraph, “I don’t enjoy being single. It’s not something I wanted. There’s nothing nice about it. It’s just hard.” She adds, “Sometimes maybe it appears I am pulling it all together, but really I am just trying to get through my days.”
Maybe Maleficent needs to make an appearance in court, Angelina? Or it might just be best to be civil, right?
Angelina’s most recent directorial effort was Netflix film First They Killed My Father, which hits the streaming service on September 15th. Watch a trailer for the movie below:
We eagerly await for Angelina to return to the big screen for another show stopping performance as the complex Disney villain Maleficent. Whether Elle Fanning will be reprising her role as ‘Princess Aurora’ or Brenton Thwaites as ‘Prince Phillip’, is yet still unknown. What we do know however is that no one could ever replace our Angelina. Watch that space, as the movie is sure to be an amazing treat once it’s released onto the silver screens around the world.
