Don’t let a former President, Vice President and head of the CIA fool you, even though he is in a wheelchair at 93-years old. In George’s generation, a good old-fashioned groping of a woman’s posterior is second nature, right? Or is it? Amazingly, in the wave of women coming forward accusing many men of sexual abuse, sexual harassment and so forth across Hollywood and the music industry, now it’s former president George H. W. Bush who’s getting in trouble too.
Could grabbing a woman’s butt, really constitute sexual assault, or have things gone too far now? In any case, George H.W. Bush is really making a stake for the claim of being called Dirty Grandpa or Bad Grandpa, that’s for sure, as his behaviour has been less than appropriate.
On Tuesday, Actress Heather Lind made allegations of being sexually assaulted by George H. W. Bush from his wheelchair 4 years ago. During a photo opportunity, George groped Heather in front of Barbara Bush who also witnessed the incident. Her co-star Kevin McNally confirmed the incident happened.
George H. W. Bush apologised saying the incident was an attempt at good humour and it wasn’t meant to offend Heather Lind. Clearly, she did take offence to the ex-President’s actions. Her Friend tweeted in her support:
Heather Lind is not the only one who has come forward in regards to George Bush Senior’s actions. On Instagram, Jordana Grolnick stated alongside a photo, that George H. W. Bush groped her behind, after telling her his favourite magician is “David-Cop-A-Feel”, making her the second actress in successive days that have experienced George’s sleight of hand. Here’s Jordana’s caption for the photo:
Here is Jordana’s photo which clearly shows George’s sleight of hand in action. On the bottom left, you can see his highlighted hand making contact during the August 2016 photo opportunity at a theatre in Maine, which at the time, she was working on a Hunch Back of Notre Dame production, as reported by Deadspin.
Jordana said, “We all circled around him and Barbara for a photo, and I was right next to him. He reached his right hand around to my behind, and as we smiled for the photo he asked the group, ‘Do you want to know who my favorite magician is?”As I felt his hand dig into my flesh, he said, ‘David Cop-a-Feel!”. She said that others in the room ‘laughed politely and out of discomfort,’ and that former first lady Barbara Bush ‘said something along the lines of, ‘He’s going to get himself put into jail!”
Jordana added that she thought at the time, “Whatever. He’s a dirty old man”. But added that, “It wasn’t ok for him to do that to me. I realize that making light of the situation was the wrong move. It wasn’t ok for him to do that to me”.
A spokesperson for the Bush’s said, “At age 93, President Bush has been confined to a wheelchair for roughly five years, so his arm falls on the lower waist of people with whom he takes pictures. To try to put people at ease, the president routinely tells the same joke — and on occasion, he has patted women’s rears in what he intended to be a good-natured manner. Some have seen it as innocent; others clearly view it as inappropriate. To anyone he has offended, President Bush apologizes most sincerely.”
Jordana Grolnick is the second woman to come forward, two days after Heather Lind came forward first. A Bush spokesperson released this statement regarding the alleged groping: “President Bush would never – under any circumstance – intentionally cause anyone distress, and he most sincerely apologizes if his attempt at humor offended Ms. Lind.”
When Lind was asked about the incident, she said, “When I got the chance to meet George H. W. Bush four years ago to promote a historical television show I was working on, he sexually assaulted me while I was posing for a similar photo. He didn’t shake my hand. He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara Bush by his side. He told me a dirty joke.”.
Has the #MeToo hashtag gone too far now? Even old grandpa’s in wheelchairs are being called out on their dirty old man behaviour. Patting women on the buttocks is something which people clearly did in the old days. Then again, we’re not IN the old days anymore, are we?
Some people on social media have reacted against this most dubious of sexual assault claims from the two women, saying: “According to RAINN the definition for sexual assault is What is sexual assault? The term sexual assault refers to sexual contact or behavior that occurs without explicit consent of the victim. Some forms of sexual assault include: Attempted rape, Fondling or unwanted sexual touching, Forcing a victim to perform sexual acts, such as oral sex or penetrating the perpetrator’s body, Penetration of the victim’s body, also known as rape.”
Another called this #MeToo post off the mark, saying: “Awards for bravery don’t belong to women who post on Instagram. I’ve been loathe [sic] to comment on things like this but this was the last straw. I’m not denying anyone’s ‘truth,’ and I am not saying that sexual harassment or assault don’t cause most victims to feel fear and shame, but I am saying that it isn’t all the same.”
The commenter went on: “It isn’t equal. And if you think this post is going to help the women trapped by husbands still beating them, the women who will be brutally raped tonight, the little girls being turn [sic] apart by they’re [sic] own protectors, you’re wrong.”
And another person commented, “‘You are terrible, he was 89 years old. and has some Dementia and Vascular Parkinson’s. You were not sexually assaulted. You cheapen every person that was. This is not political. I have never voted for a Bush or a republican in my life. This is just wrong.”
So, there you have it! Lots of food for thought amidst these latests claims from two women, who class this as sexual assault from an old man in a wheelchair…..
