Arsenal Sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang For £55.4 Million

With the January transfer window in two days time, Arsenal are having to put their money with their mouth is in their dealings with Borussia Dortmund for the acquisition of Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Perhaps it’s really time for Arsene Wenger to finally sign this star player, instead of solely crunching the numbers since the rumours broke?

Yes, Borussia Dortmund have insisted on a figure close to £56 million rather than Arsenal’s opening bids of £50 million, however, now the deal looked closer to £60 million at one point, as the transfer saga goes to the wire, with many other factors of players going elsewhere set to play a part.

The Gunners were hoping to offload French striker Olivier Giroud to Borussia Dortmund, however, the German club were unimpressed in initial talks with the French striker about the potential transfer, with Wenger’s hopes of using him as bait to secure Aubameyang for a cheaper price.

However, Arsenal have now agreed with Dortmund on a healthy £55.4million transfer fee, with a £180,000 a week contract for Aubameyang

Borussia Dortmund have gone very cold on the idea of Olivier Giroud as he expressed no want to transfer to Germany, and reportedly doesn’t want to leave his residence in London.

This opens the door to rivals Chelsea, who have been waiting in the wings to get hold of for Olivier Giroud, as they have been adamantly chasing a new forward player after losing out on Romelu Lukaku in the summer. Howver, Arsenal Wenger wants Chelsea to meet their £35 million valuation of the French forward.

Chelsea have already signed left back Emerson Palmieri from AS Roma, and we’re expecting them to go for striker Edin Dzeko in a double swoop, however, this hasn’t happened yet, and AS Roma had set a deadline of Sunday for Chelsea to land their Bosnian striker. So unless negotiations took place yesterday, it might mean that Edin Dzeko will stay in Roma, and Chelsea will be forced to buy Olivier Giroud for £35 million.

Borussia Dortmund meanwhile have turned their attention to the all scoring, wantaway Belgian striker currently at Chelsea, Michy Batshuayi, who scored twice in the FA Cup this weekend, yet doesn’t feature in Antonio Conte’s plans.

Indeed, strange things are happening in the word of football, but who cares? It sure does make the January transfer window all that more interesting.

Of course, the biggest transfer of the window so far has been Manchester United signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal under the noses of Manchester City, who did not want to disrupt their squad of players who sit atop of the Premier League, and are still chasing four trophies this season.

Meanwhile, the Citizens manager, Pep Guardiola, claims that they’re not going to spend lots of money in this window, since they can’t afford it, which of course is a major PR stunt and a major lie, as they have central defender America Laporte from Athletic Bilbao to strengthen Manchester City’s back line after triggering his £57 million release clause. Laporte, like Aubameyang, are expected to be done deals by midweek.
