Iconic Swedish striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, announced yesterday that his Manchester United career had come to an end, with him posting the following message on social media.
iamzlatanibrahimovic: “Great things also come to an end and it is time to move on after two fantastic seasons with Manchester United. Thank you to the club, the fans, the team, the coach, the staff and everybody who shared with me this part of my history. #foreverred”
It is now thought that Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s new deal will be officially unveiled by Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy in the Los Angeles Times on Friday with a full page spread, before he arrives next week on Wednesday or Thursday, after reportedly having signed a contract worth $1.5 million per year, which is the maximum allowed for a contract using Targeted Allocation Money.
What could be Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s motivations for signing up with MLS side LA Galaxy? Well, to out it quite logically, it’s most likely to carry on his winning legacy, as he’s one of the only football players ever to continuously win trophies wherever he has played in his career, and mark our words, he will go down in history for it.
Zlatan is a winner wherever he goes, and by joining LA Galaxy, they will be serious contenders again after a disappointing performance last season. Now that the new MLS season is already under way and with Zlatan fit to play again, he had to make a decision that would benefit him, since he wanted to get straight back out onto the pitch and rebuild his fitness, perhaps in the hope that he might be able to prove his worth and turn up for Sweden in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, this coming summer. Zlatan has mentioned that he would definitely come out of International retirement, should he be called upon by his nation.
Manchester United sent out this tribute to Zlatan Ibrahimovic yesterday after his departure from the club. He was pivotal in last seasons’ campaign before picking up an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the Europa League match against Basel in April, last year.
However, last season was a huge success and Zlatan Ibrahimovic won the Community Shield, the EFL Trophy and helped lead them to Europa League glory (qualified them for the Champions League) with all his goals. Zlatan is no doubt a winning influence for any team, since he has won trophies in every club that he has played for. Here’s some of those amazing stats from his trophy laden career at clubs like Ajax, Juventus, Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan, PSG and ultimately Manchester United, as follows:
|Serie A||Winner||5x||2010/2011, 2008/2009, 2007/2008, 2006/2007, 2004/2005|
|Ligue 1||Winner||4x||2015/2016, 2014/2015, 2013/2014, 2012/2013|
|Coppa Italia||Runner-up||2x||2007/2008, 2006/2007|
|Coupe de France||Winner||2x||2015/2016, 2014/2015|
|Coupe de la Ligue||Winner||3x||2015/2016, 2014/2015, 2013/2014|
|Super Cup||Winner||3x||2011/2012, 2008/2009, 2006/2007|
|Super Cup||Winner||2x||2010/2011, 2009/2010|
|Trophée des Champions||Winner||3x||2015/2016, 2014/2015, 2013/2014|
With Manchester United, it’s sad not see Zlatan back on the pitch one last time and scoring just a few more goals. Nobody matches his thirst for winning, his spectacular goals, the way he brings others into play with precision passing and how he holds the ball up for other players that are running through the channels. Either way, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be fondly remembered at Manchester United, even after making a miraculous recovery by November of 2017 (from his injury in record time) although unfortunately, he later re-aggravated the injury this season after making only 7 appearances and scoring one additional goal, which then sidelined him since early January of 2018. Here are his official Manchester United stats, after nearly two seasons at the club.
Here is Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s last goal for Manchester United this season. Take a look at this amazing strike! He surely would have scored more goals, if it weren’t for that injury which became strained again this season.
Now here’s another inspirational Instagram tribute from last night, before we finish off with a video of all the goals that he ever scored for Manchester United. Lions don’t compare themselves with humans, after all.
Now you’re in for a real treat here; you can watch each and every goal that Zlatan has scored for Manchester United, with extended replays, just so you can get the scope of how he simply arrived and just started to bang in the goals from everywhere.
We’re sad to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic depart from Manchester United, as quite clearly, he could have played for Manchester United again, however, we now wish him all the best of luck in the next part of his career journey. Although it is said by Sports Illustrated, which was reported by Kevin Baxter of The Los Angeles Times, after it was first reported by Mark Ogden of ESPN.com that Zlatan has already signed for LA Galaxy, so we await the confirmation as soon a Los Angeles are waking up.
If he indeed does join LA Galaxy, he will be eligible to play almost straight away, and we could expect to see him as soon as March 31st against new rivals LA FC. While there will be talk of whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic can still perform at 36-years old after suffering an injury, we’d just like to say that Zlatan will be a revelation for LA Galaxy. Mark our words, since nobody should ever doubt Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
He will also bring much needed character and determination to a side that already does have a few good players on their team, such as the recently voted most overrated Giovanni Dos Santos, Romain Allessandrini, Jonathan Dos Santos, Ashley Cole, and now Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with the latter surely being in a league of his own. He can inspire them all to reach new levels of success.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be following in the footsteps of David Beckham and Steven Gerrard in joining the LA Galaxy from the Premier League.
We predict LA Galaxy for the playoffs, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score an insane amount of goals in the MLS for LA Galaxy. Needless to say, this should be interesting, and you can expect LA Galaxy shirt sales to sky rocket with merchandising revenue going through the roof. Let’s also hope that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be able to settle down into the city of Los Angeles, which no doubt has a lot better weather than Manchester.
