You can almost smell the lingering body odour on Antifa’s scruffy and unkempt members, the same stench that’s still stuck on the walls in their mum’s basements. Yes, Antifa, that masked and self-styled anti-fascist militant group could soon be spending even more time away from natural day light, as they now face up to 15 years in jail if a new bill introduced by a US congressman is passed.
The bill, titled the ‘Unmasking Antifa Act of 2018’ aims to target and punish anyone wearing a mask or disguise who “injures, oppresses, threatens, or intimidates” someone else exercising a right guaranteed under the US Constitution. This includes expressing a political view or alliance that differs to their own.
The bill, which was introduced by Republican Representative, Dan Donovan of New York, specifically targets the radicalised proportion of the far left, who in recent years have grown increasingly violent and aggressive in opposing political and social views that do not align with their own “fascist” views.
This has included attacking and intimidating conservative political figures, such as Candace Owens, who along with her Turning Point USA colleague, Charlie Kirk, were harassed and hounded out of a public restaurant and screamed at by far left members of the extremist group, with Owens being labelled a “white supremacist” for simply having conservative aligned political views, whilst being a black American.
In 2017, Antifa thugs caused over $100,000 worth of damage at UC Berkeley University in protest of gay conservative commentator, Milo Yiannopoulos, who was an intended guest speaker at the campus, but as we know, freedom of speech is not Antifa’s forté.
Black-clad Antifa members wearing masks threw commercial-grade fireworks and rocks at police. Some even hurled molotov cocktails that ignited fires, smashed windows, and seriously injured fellow students that were simply there to attend the event, which in the end was cancelled by UC Berkeley University administrators.
This, of course, totally goes against the far-left groups message of solidarity and standing up for so called “minorities”, but instead highlights the hypocrisy and double standards embedded in their radicalised movement. Seemingly, it doesn’t matter if their intended targets are black, gay or fall under the “minority” bracket, for as long as you do not conform to their political and social ideology, you are an enemy of this extremist movement.
Antifa, who have already been labelled as a domestic terrorist organisation by the state office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, often wear black and obscure their faces in hoodies and balaclavas, while protesting in large and often maniacal hordes that have already been linked to a number of violent and savage incidents over the past couple of years, including brutally attacking and intimidating US veterans, police officers, and even government political and public figures.
Only recently, Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson filed an official police report, after 20 members of the far-left group assembled outside his house, when his wife was home alone. Antifa then chanted loudly through a bullhorn “Tucker Carlson, we will fight. We know where you sleep at night”, then his petrified wife managed to lock herself into a pantry, as masked members attempted to knock down the front door.
The far-left group posted the harrowing attack on their own (now suspended) Twitter account with an even darker threat: ‘Tonight, we remind you that you are not safe either.’
This yet again indicates that Antifa will not stop at nothing, until they oppose and silence differing political opinions that do not conform to their own. This is in fact, the real definition of a fascist.
The bill, which hopes to deradicalize and criminalize violence and intimidation carried out by the far left, and Antifa in particular, has even been praised by leftist political commentators, and if passed, could bring an end to the masked extremist organisation once and for all.
People have the natural right to speak and protest freely. However, it is not a right to throw molotov cocktails, damage property, and beat people up while hiding behind a mask, just because that person just so happens to be a Republican and supports the President of the United States of America. That is a crime, and for that crime, Antifa must pay.
In hindsight, with the potential of 15 years behind bars, maybe Antifa members will finally take advantage of a free shower at least?
